First Clips from 'Anchorman: The Legend Continues' Aren't Very Funny
The marketing for Anchorman: The Legend Continues has mostly featured Ron Burgundy in commercial ads schilling for cars, books, or other products he has nothing to do with, and let's just say it hasn't been all that effective. Will Ferrell is a funny guy but Burgundy is a character that works only within the realm of Anchorman, and all they've really accomplished is overexposing him in the way Austin Powers was overexposed to distract from movies that stopped being funny pretty fast. And now the first clips from the Anchorman sequel are here, and they give more reason for concern.
The first clip has Burgundy and the rest of the team going gah-gah over their new colleagues, especially James Marsden as the immaculately-haired Jack Lime. The seeds of a future showdown are sewn but not much in the way of laughs. The second is also curiously free of humor and has the guys confused by a commentator's Australian accent. Painting the guys as oblivious and narcissistic is one thing, but they are seriously treading on Dumb and Dumber territory now.
Oh, and just to emphasize how watered down Ron Burgundy has become, here he is pimpin' for some TSN curling event, and another of him getting in on all the Doctor Who hoopla. Ugh. Anchorman: The Legend Continues opens December 20th.
