Melissa Leo May Pay 'The Toll'; Adam Driver Joins 'Midnight Special'; Emily Blunt Leads 'Sister'
* Neil Labute has been making the press rounds for his latest scathing relationship film, Some Velvet Morning (read Mae's review here), and while discussing the difficulties of getting movies made he dropped some info on a potential project. Labute began talking about The Toll, a film about "a New Jersey tollbooth worker who winds up responsible for thwarting a terrorist attack threatening the entire east cost." He revealed that Melissa Leo (Frozen River, The Fighter) is his choice to play that tollbooth worker, assuming the film comes together. Fingers crossed that it does. [Collider]
* Adam Driver has shot down any hopes he'll play Nightwing in Batman vs. Superman, but he's going to be plenty busy, anyway. He's joined the cast of Midnight Special, the upcoming sci-fi flick from Jeff Nichols (Mud) and starring Michael Shannon, Kirsten Dunst, and Joel Edgerton. Written by Nichols, the story centers on a father and son who go on the run after the dad learns his 8 year-old child possesses special powers. Driver's role is being kept hidden for now which only makes this project all the more intriguing. I can't wait for this one. [TheWrap]
* The benefits of being the sister of literary agent Felicity Blunt? You get first dibs on all the bestseller adaptations. Emily Blunt will take the lead role in Sister, based on the best-selling novel by Rosamund Lupton (and repped by Felicity), that "follows Beatrice (Blunt) as she investigates the death of her younger sister Tess, whose death is ruled a suicide by police. Convinced that her sister was murdered, Beatrice sets out to uncover the strange events leading up to Tess’ death, though she may pay a terrible price for the truth." Having starred in Sunshine Cleaning and Your Sister's Sister it's clear that movies about siblings are very dear to Blunt, and hopefully this one is just as good as those were. It may be awhile before we this one gets moving as a director and screenwriter still need to be found.
