First Trailer for 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' Spins Its Web

Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 2 is generally considered the best of his trilogy and one of the finest superhero movies ever made, as he confidently improved on the missteps of the first film and gave Peter Parker a credible foe to tangle with. While Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man was relatively well-received it was met with its fair share of criticism as well. Will the sequel take a similar leap forward in quality? The jury is still out whether or not it will be better, but the first trailer suggests it will definitely be bigger.

After days of images and teasers, the first full trailer has hit and right away it has a totally different feel than the first film, with Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield) dealing with foes both obvious and ambiguous. As his relationship with Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone) is taken to the next level, Peter Parker is confronted by the evil Electro (Jamie Foxx) while we get a quick glimpse of the Rhino (Paul Giamatti) before he dons his armored suit. Dane DeHaan plays Parker's old friend Harry Osborn who seems to be following in the treacherous footsteps of his father Norman (Chris Cooper). Look closely and you'll see a brief shot of Spidey battling Harry after he claims the mantle of the Green Goblin.  No hint of the Sinister Six but we can assume the origins of their formation will start here. All in all it's impressive even if some scenes continue to resemble video games just a little too much.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 swings into your friendly neighborhood theater on May 2nd 2014.
