Interview: Jason Ritter Reveals the Answers Behind 'The Big Ask'
The summer is usually the time when we think of big, expensive studio films clogging up the local multiplex, but if there's one thing we've seen recently it's that plenty of room exists for smaller movies to gain attention. One of those movies that may be flying under the radar is The Big Ask, an ensemble dramedy with a terrific cast and a premise you've probably never seen before. When a group of close friends get together for what should be a relaxing desert retreat, they learn the real reason for the getaway was because their friend, depressed over the recent death of his mother, wants to sleep with all of his female friends as a way of healing. The revelation forces the three couples to evaluate their current relationships, while exploring issues of grief and depression while having a little fun on the side.
While the film has a terrific ensemble including David Krumholtz, Melanie Lynskey, Ahna O'Reilly, and Gillian Jacobs, there are individual performances that stand out, and one of those was by Jason Ritter. I had a chance to talk with Ritter about The Big Ask, some of the questions the film ponders, and finding his niche as an actor. You can listen to the interview below, and be sure to get The Big Ask through VOD here after checking out my review.
