Ansel Elgort, Tye Sheridan Eyed for Dean Israelite's 'WarGames' Remake

Part of MGM's long-running plan to remake every hit from their catalog included WarGames, the 1983 film that starred Matthew Broderick and Ally Sheedy doing battle with a warmongering computer. Seth Gordon (Horrible Bosses) had been attached but he has now left the project to focus on adapting the Uncharted video game, and now a it's Dean Israelite who is coming aboard to direct.

Israelite, who is set to make his directorial debut on the Michael Bay-produced time travel film, Project Almanac, is in final talks to helm WarGames. He'll be joined by screenwriter Arash Amel who will rewrite the previous drafts by Noah Oppenheim and Zak Penn which will center on a teenaged hacker who unwittingly releases a virus targeting the world's computer systems. MGM is said to be looking at Ansel Elgort and Tye Sheridan to take on the male lead. Elgort can be seen in theaters now in tearjerker The Fault In Our Stars, while Sheridan recently starred with Nicolas Cage in Joe.

With technological advances being what they are, and in today's age of largely computer-controlled warfare, WarGames could be a film that benefits from a modern update. [TheWrap]
