From all the images and the teaser trailers we've seen of The Equalizer, which reteams Training Day duo Antoine Fuqua and Denzel Washington, it basically looks like a Man on Fire sequel. Denzel plays tough, bad guys get dead, endangered girl gets properly protected, nothing new to see here. So why is Sony so high on it they've already green lit a sequel? Maybe the full trailer can provide some answers.
Denzel plays ex-covert ops agent Robert McCall, the same character made famous by Ed Woodward in the '80s TV series. Retired and living a normal life, McCall is called back into action to protect a prostitute (Chloe Moretz) from Russian gangsters.
This still looks pretty bland, and one can only think what it could have been if Nicolas Winding Refn hadn't dropped out as director. The Equalizer opens September 26th.
