Shane Black's 'Predator' Film is a Sequel Not a Reboot
The big news to drop yesterday that had nothing to do with Harrison Ford's ankle was about a new Predator film from Iron Man 3 and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang director, Shane Black. At the time it was reported to be a reboot of the long-running franchise, which was disappointing news to those who were fans of the Robert Rodriguez-produced Predators from four years ago. But as it turns out the initial reporting was wrong and Black won't be doing a reboot at all.
Speaking with Collider, Black said he and writer Fred Dekker's plan was to do an "inventive sequel" and not a reboot of the franchise....
Black: “Why start over, when you’ve all this rich mythology yet to mine?”
Black added that he really can get into “the idea of expanding and exploring the existing Predator mythology, rather than hitting the restart button. He also went on to say that he doesn't really like the idea of reboots which should make Predator fans anxious to see how the past stories come into play. Will Black be following up on Predators? Or is this a sequel to Predator 2? Only time will tell.
