Channing Tatum Gets Serious in New 'Foxcatcher' Poster and Teaser Trailer
We already know what Channing Tatum can do in action movies and in comedies, having only just returned as the dim-witted Officer Jenko in 22 Jump Street. Whatever you think of him, he's dramatically improved as an actor has proven to be a fairly reliable box office draw. There aren't too many who can say that, actually, and it will be interesting to see how Tatum fares in a film like the upcoming Foxcatcher, which will require him to get serious and show what he can do on the dramatic front.
The new poster and teaser trailer for the Bennett Miller (Moneyball) helmed film has been released, and it promises a Tatum who probably won't be cracking a lot of jokes. Originally meant to be in theaters last fall but was pushed back to this November to qualify for the upcoming Oscars, it stars Mark Ruffalo and Steve Carell in a dark biopic on the life of schizophrenic millionaire and wrestling enthusiast, John du Pont. Tatum plays wrestler Mark Schultz, whose autobiography the story is based on, as he and his Olympic medal-winning brother Dave (Ruffalo) befriend du Pont (Carell), attending his state-of-the-art wrestling facility Foxcatcher Farm. But du Pont's wealth hid his mental instability, and as a heated rivalry simmers between all three men du Pont would murder Mark, claiming he was part of a grand conspiracy.
Debuting at Cannes to rave reviews, the consensus seems to be that Tatum, Carell, and Ruffalo give career best performances. So it looks like the long wait for Foxcatcher will have been worth it. We'll find out when it opens on November 14th. [People]
