Marvel's Hulk Movie Could Be a Superhero Team-Up

There has been a lot of talk lately about Marvel's plans for a standalone Hulk film, and nearly all of it has come from Mark Ruffalo. What it has amounted to are basically two things: that Marvel is definitely considering doing one, which we all kind of already knew, and that it definitely won't be based on Planet Hulk as previous rumors suggested. But if there's "not even a skeletal version" of a script yet how can he be so confident? Well there may be an answer, but it comes with a serious SPOILER so turn away now if you care about that sort of thing.

Okay, so the plot of Planet Hulk has the Hulk fired off into space by the Avengers because he's too dangerous. Hulk lands on an alien gladiatorial world and proceeds to smash through his opponents until he becomes its ruler. It's a very cool story, but Ruffalo has already said Marvel has no plans to do it. Was he playing coy with us, though, and leaving something out? Drew McWeeny over at Hitfix tackled the Hulk rumors and here's what he had to say, beginning with the end of Avengers: Age of Ultron....

Banner continues to play a key role in things in this movie, and when the final war with Ultron spills onto the battlefield and out of the virtual realm, he has a major part to play. Unfortunately, that ends with him onboard a Quin jet on his way off the planet, with no way to immediately turn things around. He’s going to have to ride out the trip. It’s pre-programmed and he can’t stop it.

This is similar to the Planet Hulk set-up, but that's not where things are going to go. The rest is pure speculation by McWeeny although it makes some degree of sense. He guesses that Hulk will land on a distant planet where he'll encounter the Guardians of the Galaxy and they'll have a grand intergalactic adventure. In their attempts to get him home it will also put them in the orbit, literally and figuratively, of the Avengers in time for a third movie.

So technically Ruffalo isn't lying when he says there won't be a Planet Hulk film, and he actually addressed the issue of Hulk going solo specifically in his most recent comments...

Ruffalo: “I don’t think ['Planet Hulk'] is the way to go yet. I think you need more Banner. The whole thing is just him as Hulk, on a planet, fighting other gladiators.”

Pairing him with the Guardians of the Galaxy would fix that problem, and make the Marvel world a little more cohesive in the process. So what do you think? Dig this idea or would you rather see Hulk fly solo?
