Matthew McConaughey Could Play CIA Agent Edwin Wilson in 'The Company Man'

Now that he's got an Oscar sitting on his mantle Hollywood is pretty much Matthew McConaughey's oyster, and he has the run of any project he wants. Does that mean he'll go back and make Sahara 2 or something? Probably not, and his tastes have stayed at a pretty high level with Christopher Nolan's Interstellar on the way. Now he's eying another project that sounds like it will also be up to a high standard.

Deadline reports McConaughey has "come aboard" The Company Man, which features a hot Black List script by Andrew Cypiot. The film is based on the true story of CIA agent Edwin Wilson, who "went behind enemy lines to secure a weapons contract and report information back to the CIA shortly after the Cold War. He had a meteoric rise until company policies changed and he was unceremoniously fired. Even after, he continued to operate as a man without a country and became public enemy No. 1 to the U.S. Attorney’s office." That's actually being pretty vague, as Wilson was convicted of selling arms to Libya in 1983 but the case against him was trumped up by the Department of Justice and CIA who hid evidence. The judgment against him was overturned in 2003 and he filed a civil suit against federal prosecutors that did not turn out so well.

There's no director set but McConaughey is said to be heavily involved in the process of finding one so it sounds like he's all in on this one, perhaps recognizing as another potential awards candidate.
