New Trailer for David Fincher's 'Gone Girl' Starring Ben Affleck

David Fincher's run of successful adaptations came to an end with The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, although calling it a failure also wouldn't be quite right. Based on the Swedish novel that was part of a global phenomenon at the time, it made a lot of money but not nearly as much as it should, certainly not enough to warrant sequels. But Fincher may have found the perfect way to bounce back with Gone Girl, based on Gillian Flynn's wildly popular crime novel that has swept the country and turned the author into a Hollywood star. After releasing a handful of teaser posters over the weekend a new trailer has been released that suggests Fincher is back at the top of his game.

"Nick Dunne, you are probably the most hated man in America right now", begins this somber, chilling trailer for Gone Girl, which stars Affleck as a man suspected in the disappearance of his wife, Amy (Rosamund Pike). She disappeared on their fifth wedding anniversary and Nick, looking rather unrepentant and somewhat squirrelly, doesn't exactly come off as the most likable figure in the world. From the grim lighting to the blunt characters this is right in Fincher's wheelhouse, and the moody score by Oscar winners Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross (both of The Social Network) only lends to the atmosphere.

Featuring a strange but compelling cast that includes Neil Patrick Harris, Tyler Perry, Kim Dickens, Patrick Fugit, Scoot McNairy, Casey Wilson, and Emily Ratajkowski, Gone Girl has an Oscar-worthy release date of October 3rd.
