In Vince Vaughn's continuing efforts to broaden his acting horizons, he's making some of the most interesting choices of his career. He recently wrapped filming on Term Life, an action flick co-starring Hailee Steinfeld, and he's also set to join the second season of HBO's True Detective. If that's not a departure for the guy best known for Old School and Swingers then nothing is. And now Vaughn is turning his attention towards politics with The Politician, which has also just gained a director in Michael Dowse.
Seth Rogen is producing the film, which features a script by Matthew Bass and Theodore Bressman that turned up on the Black List. Vaughn will play a Washington, DC politician who goes on the run with his sidekick from the FBI, drug dealers, and U.S. Marshals after getting caught up in a hooker scandal.
Dowse recently directed the Daniel Radcliffe/Zoe Kazan rom-com What If, but has directed numerous comedies over the years. He directed the hockey comedy, Goon, and the '80s nostalgia film Take Me Home Tonight.
No word on when filming on The Politician will begin but one can expect it to be ready in time for the 2016 Presidential elections. [THR]
