New Trailer and Clip for 'Cymbeline' is Shakespeare meets 'Sons of Anarchy'

Back in 2000 Michael Almereyda and Ethan Hawke teamed up on a sharp, contemporary version of Hamlet, back when it was chic to bring a modern spin to the Bard's classic stories. And now the duo are back at it again after all these years with Cymbeline, taking one of Shakespeare's lesser-known works and refashioning it into something that looks like an episode of Sons of Anarchy.

Debuting at the Venice Film Festival a few days ago and recently acquired by Lionsgate's Grindstone Entertainment, a new trailer and clip have been released for the Shakespearean adaptation, one that features automatic weapons and biker gangs. Hawke stars alongside a packed cast that includes Ed Harris, Milla Jovovich, John Leguizamo, Penn Badgley, Dakota Johnson, and Anton Yelchin. It's interesting to see Leguizamo in this since he was a part of Baz Luhrmann's  Romeo + Juliet, and this film seems to be following along those same lines. Set in a corrupted America, the story follows the war between a biker gang and dirty cops, with a pair of lovers stuck in the middle, of course.

Cymbeline is expected to be released theatrically and VOD some time next spring.
