Sylvester Stallone Eyed for Action-Comedy 'Cold Warriors'
Sylvester Stallone has made quite a few stinkers over the course of his career, but the worst are when he intentionally tries to blend his macho action-hero mystique with his questionable comedic gifts. Movies like The Expendables are funny without trying too hard to be so, but a dog of a buddy comedy like Stop! Or my Mom will Shoot is legendarily awful. And now Stallone is reportedly circling another such laugher in Cold Warriors, a film that combines video games and Vladimir Putin. Well, sorta.
According to a story at The Tracking Board, Stallone is set to star in Cold Warriors, based on a script by Todd Berger. Berger is the multi-talented guy who wrote, directed, and starred in the hilarious apocalyptic comedy It's a Disaster, plus 2003's The Scenesters, so he's someone who may be able to make a fairly awful premise work out better than it sounds. And in this case Cold Warriors would have Stallone as an ex-CIA agent who is reactivated to complete an old mission in Russia. Unfortunately, his new stepson, a video game nerd, is along for the ride.
The film was originally titled "Back in the USSR" when it was making the rounds a couple of years ago, but I guess they figured it sounded too much like a Yakov Smirnoff sketch.
