Troy Duffy Reveals Details on 'The Boondock Saints 3: Legion' which May or May Not Happen

In the ten years between The Boondock Saints and its sequel, The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day, writer/director Troy Duffy rose to fame then crashed and burned spectacularly. But that nor the long wait was enough to deter fans of the cult favorite vigilante flicks which star Sean Patrick Flannery and The Walking Dead's Norman Reedus. The sequel only attracted those die-hard fans and didn't make much money at all, but Duffy is pushing ahead on a third movie, and some details on it have been revealed.

According to Flickering Myth, Duffy held a Facebook Q&A where he answered a few questions about his hopes for The Boondock Saints 3, which will be subtitled 'Legion'. No, the McManus Brothers won't be out there fighting evil angels or anything like that, but the title refers to the legions of people taking the law into their own hands now that the Irish brothers are basically folk legends. Duffy also says the story will go back to the very first crime they ever committed. Putting two and two together, this sounds like Reedus and Flannery won't be coming back but nothing is official and probably won't be for awhile as Duffy takes his time to "get it right".  But with Reedus stating a couple of years ago that he definitely wouldn't be returning, citing "creative differences" as the reason, it's hard to believe there would nearly as much enthusiasm for the film without him.

We'll see what happens, and frankly I'm not holding my breath on The Boondock Saints 3: Legion ever happening.  It's one thing for Duffy to tell a bunch of eager fans he's making the movie, quite another to get someone to actually pay for it.
