Alexander Payne's 'Downsizing' Adds Alec Baldin, Jason Sudeikis, and Neil Patrick Harris

When Alexander Payne first tried to mount his social satire Downsizing some years ago, he found that he wasn't experienced quite experienced enough to handle a film of its scope. But with a few more projects in the can (like The Descendants and Nebraska), he's begun reassembling the pieces of his passion project in earnest. Matt Damon and Reese Witherspoon are on board, and some weeks ago Payne mentioned that he wanted Alec Baldwin in a supporting role. Well, now he's got him plus a couple of other big names.

The Wrap reports Baldwin, Neil Patrick Harris, and Jason Sudeikis have joined Downsizing, a high concept film set in a world where people are now able to shrink down in size to help fight against the depletion of Earth's natural resources. Damon and Witherspoon play a husband and wife who agree to shrink down thinking it will make their lives better, but problems arise when she changes her mind at the last minute.

Filming on Downsizing is to begin next year and should be in theaters in 2017.
