Don't Expect to See a 'Bourne' Crossover with Matt Damon and Jeremy Renner

Now that Matt Damon is back as Jason Bourne, that leaves the question open what to do with Jeremy Renner's character, Aaron Cross, who took over the franchise in The Bourne Legacy. A sequel to that film has been put on hold while Damon and Paul Greengrass' get theirs ready for 2016, but surely Universal wouldn't waste the opportunity to put stars of this magnitude in the same? Jason Bourne vs. Aaron Cross for the brainwashed super-agent title? Well, don't hold your breath.

While speaking with Collider, producer Frank Marshall said their are no plans to crossover the characters...

Marshall: "We don’t have plans for that.  You never know.  I never say never.  But that’s not the plan.  They’re on separate tracks."

That would seem to indicate there are at least some plans for Renner's character, although I'm of the belief he is being quietly written out and the 'Legacy' franchise shut down. For one thing, the film didn't perform as well as the ones with Damon, which is understandable. But also because the director previously attached to a 'Legacy' sequel, Justin Lin, has moved on to Star Trek 3. However you know if Universal sees money in it they will find a way to have Cross and Bourne cross paths and likely punch one another in the face on motorcycles.

Anyway, the Bourne film from Damon and Greengrass will arrive on July 29th 2016.
