Get Tiny in the First Big Teaser for Marvel's 'Ant-Man'

Marvel's taken a lot of big gambles in crafting their cinematic universe. Obviously the first was Iron Man back in 2008, but we saw a major gamble pay off earlier this year when Guardians of the Galaxy became one of the top grossing movies of 2014. The next big risk arrives this summer with Ant-Man, a film that has been in the works for nearly a decade and only recently underwent a serious creative shake-up that saw fan favorite director Edgar Wright replaced by Peyton Reed. Will it all have been worth it? Is Ant-Man Marvel's next great hero?

The first teaser for Ant-Man debuted tonight at the end of the Agent Carter premiere episode, and it's tough to see what impact Wright's departure had. What we do get is a bit of Paul Rudd's trademark humor as Scott Lang, and Michael Douglas playing it serious as Henry Pym, the man who invented the Ant-Man armor and the "Pym particles" that allow him to shrink and grow in stature. We also get a glimpse of Evangeline Lilly as Hope Van Dyne, the estranged daughter of Pym and Janet Van Dyne aka The Wasp. What we don't get are a lot of special effects, but considering how far out we are from the film's release that isn't a surprise. Here's the official synopsis:

“The next evolution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe brings a founding member of The Avengers to the big screen for the first time with Marvel Studios’ Ant-Man. Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, master thief Scott Lang must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym, protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.”

This is still just a teaser and hopefully we'll get a better sense of the tone when the full trailer is released. Ant-Man hits theaters on July 17th.
