Jake Gyllenhaal Passes On 'Suicide Squad' Role

As Warner Bros. looks to expand the scope of David Ayer's Suicide Squad film to possibly include an appearance by Batman himself, they still have to get the final cast in place. Tom Hardy recently dropped out of the film with reports suggesting he was unhappy with the size of his role as Rick Flag, and Jake Gyllenhaal was floated as a possibility to replace him. But the search will have to continue as Gyllenhaal has turned it down.

According to Variety, Gyllenhaal was offered the role but has decided against taking it, although no reasons are given for the decision. With Will Smith's Deadshot and Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn looking like the central characters it may be that Gyllenhaal had the same thoughts as Hardy. He's a big star who has been taking on increasingly complex roles over the past year, and it may be that he wants to continue with that than playing a supporting character in a comic book movie.

So the search continues. Suicide Squad opens August 5th 2016.
