Jennifer Lawrence Takes 'The Dive' with James Cameron and Francis Lawrence

Some years back, before James Cameron decided to call Avatar his cinematic home for the foreseeable future, he had been developing a personal passion project, The Dive. The film, originally penned by Laeta Kalogridis and rewritten by J. Michael Straczynski, centered on the husband and wife diving team of Francisco “Pipin” Ferreras and Audrey Mestre. Cameron eventually slid into a producer role and others have been attached briefly, but now it's come back to the surface with The Hunger Games duo of Jennifer Lawrence and Francis Lawrence.

According to The Wrap, Lawrence is set to star as Audrey Mestre in The Dive, reteaming with Francis Lawrence (no relation!) who she has been working with on The Hunger Games movies since 'Catching Fire'. Ferreras and Mestre broke records as freedivers, which means diving without the aid of breathing equipment, until she died in 2002 during a practice dive.

No word on who will take the Ferreras role, or what approach will be taken with the material. Cameron was on hand with Ferreras during a tribute dive in honor of his late wife, so chances are it will be a respectful piece that leaves out some of the criminal accusations made against Ferreras.
