Adam Sandler Walks in Others' Shoes in New 'The Cobbler' Trailer

The Cobbler seemed like another opportunity for Adam Sandler to flex his dramatic muscles, something many have been hoping he would do more of after a string of comedic flops. But when the film debuted at TIFF last year it was soundly crushed by critics, which is surprising given that it comes from writer/director Thomas McCarthy who directed such critical favorites as The Visitor, The Station Agent, and Win Win. And now with the latest trailer for The Cobbler arriving we can see what some of the problems may have been because this looks like a tonal catastrophe.

Sandler stars as a lonely cobbler who gains the ability to literally walk in the shoes of his customers thanks to a magical stitching machine. Through inhabiting their lives he begins to experience life in a whole new way, which apparently includes getting into trouble with the law and stalking women half his age. Despite its potential this trailer resembles just another Sandler film, probably closer to Click than Blended, but still pretty terrible. And if there was any doubt this movie is going to marketed as a goofy Sandler comedy, just take a look at this poster:
