Richard Linklater to Direct 'Where'd You Go, Bernadette' from 'The Spectacular Now' Writers
Whether or not Richard Linklater ever returns to the Boyhood characters he helped create over twelve years, that he's even thinking about it has fans of the film excited. However, Linklater has enough on his plate already. He's finishing up on his college comedy That's What I'm Talking About, and now he's added another project that could take precedence.
Linklater will direct an adaptation of Maria Semple's novel, Where'd You Go, Bernadette. The story takes another complicated look at family, although it's just offbeat enough to fit Linklater's sensibilities. Penned by Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber (The Spectacular Now, The Fault In Our Stars), it follows the disappearance of a reclusive, once-famous architect and her daughter's attempts to find her. Everything unfolds through FBI documents, emails, therapy sessions, and more.
So a pretty good way to rebound from Boyhood's disappointing performance at the Oscars, I'd say.
