'Tomb Raider' Reboot Lands 'Divergent' Screenwriter

The last major update on a reboot of the Tomb Raider franchise was two years ago with the last entry in the video game series. MGM has been pushing hard for a revival, which would be the first film since 2003's Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life, which was a mega-flop that derailed everything. Angelina Jolie obviously won't be coming back, but the studio continues to push ahead, and now they've found some help in bringing Lara Croft to the screen.

MGM has partnered up with Warner Bros. on the new Tomb Raider movie, which will follow the tomb raiding adventures of a younger Lara Croft. And penning this tale will be Evan Daugherty, writer on Snow White and the Huntsman, Divergent, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Set expectations accordingly.

At this point there's no director attached or an actress to replace Jolie, but an opportunity for a little synergy is around the corner. The next Tomb Raider video game arrives later this year and that may be when an announcement could be made.
