'Gran Turismo' Lands 'Tron Legacy' Director Joseph Kosinski

Joseph Kosinski's potential as a filmmaker has far exceeded the box office results of his two features. Both Tron Legacy and Oblivion underperformed with audiences, and now Kosinski is moving to break away from the sci-fi genre and onto something else, like an adaptation of best-selling video game Gran Turismo.

First announced back in 2013, the Gran Turismo movie appears to have found a director in Kosinski, and things are starting over under his guidance. That includes the prior screenplay by Alex Tse, which will be completely rewritten with Kosinski overseeing. His script would have centered on a gamer who becomes a racer, but that plot could have changed now.

Gran Turismo first debuted on the original Playstation back in 1997, and quickly established itself as the top racing game for home consoles, and is currently the top-selling franchise in Playstation history.

Where this fits in to Kosinski's schedule is unclear but one has to assume Sony wants to kick this project into top gear soon. Kosinski is also attached to direct The Trials of White Boy Rick and a potential Tron Legacy sequel, but little has been heard of either lately. [THR]
