Netflix Close to Acquiring Cary Fukunaga's 'Beasts of No Nation' starring Idris Elba

Netflix is making some major moves, folks, and the entire distribution landscape in Hollywood is undergoing a seismic shift as a result. With exclusive deals in place with Adam Sandler, Pee-Wee Herman, and the Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon sequel, Netflix is positioning itself as a major distribution force. Plus, the streaming network's film Virunga was just an Oscar contender for Best Documentary. What's next for Netflix? How about acquiring a major film like Cary Fukunaga's Beasts of No Nation?

According to Deadline, Netflix is nearing a deal to gain the worldwide rights to Beasts of No Nation, directed by True Detective's Fukunaga and starring Idris Elba. The $12M deal would see the film arriving on both the streaming service and in theaters. The film is based on Uzodinma Iweala's novel about a young African boy forced to become a child soldier, with Elba playing the warlord commanding the army. It's tough material that many are pegging as an early Oscar favorite.

Netflix is really starting to flex its muscle now, and I for one am fascinated to see where this goes.
