Before you write off Owen Wilson as the odd man out in action flick No Escape (formerly The Coup), keep in mind that he did star in Behind Enemy Lines which did pretty well back in 2001. He may not have the genre experience of his co-star Pierce Brosnan, but now that the first trailer has been released it looks like Wilson is acquitting himself just fine.
Also starring Lake Bell and directed by horror maven John Erick Dowdle (Quarantine), the film centers on an American family in Southeast Asia who find themselves in the middle of a violent coup; one where Americans are being executed on the spot. To be honest this looks really stupid (tossing the child off a ledge, f'real?) and about as racially sensitive as Red Dawn. But whatever, the action is pretty legit and Brosnan is always great in this kind of environment. However it's a little sad to see the roles Lake Bell has been getting served up lately. She's better than this.
No Escape opens on September 2nd.
