Reese Witherspoon is Ready to Fight 'Ashley's War'
So much for sitting back and waiting for the roles to come to her. Her Oscar-nominated performance in Wild never would have happened if it wasn't for what she was able to accomplish as a producer, and many may not realize she also produced David Fincher's Gone Girl. Now she's partnering up with Fox 2000 for another adaptation of a best-selling novel, Gayle Tzemach Lemmon's Ashley's War.
Witherspoon will produce and possibly star in the film which tells the story of CST-2, a U.S. Army Special Operations Command program that saw elite female soldiers fighting alongside Green Berets and Army Rangers in Afghanistan. Part of that unit was 24-year-old Lt. Ashley White, who would become the first member of CST-2 killed in action.
Deadline says Witherspoon may step aside to allow for a more age appropriate actress to take the role of White, but age didn't stop her from playing 26-year-old Cheryl Strayed in Wild. If the project has a better chance of moving forward with her in front of the camera don't be surprised if that's the choice she makes.
