Christopher McQuarrie May Choose to Accept 'Mission: Impossible 6'; Rebecca Ferguson Could Return

As Mission: Impossible-Rogue Nation inches closer to surpassing the nearly $700M haul of 'Ghost Protocol', it's no surprise that Paramount is looking to keep some of the principle players in-house. It's always seemed likely that Christopher McQuarrie would be back as director, if only to keep working with his pal Tom Cruise, and now that seems to be happening along with the return of Cruise's breakout co-star, Rebecca Ferguson.

According to Variety's sources, a deal is close to being struck that would have McQuarrie return for Mission: Impossible 6. Not only that, but Paramount has an option that could see Ferguson reprise her Ilsa Faust role. Ferguson has been red-hot, signing on as part of the star-studded cast of in The Girl On the Train, not to mention being rumored to replace Noomi Rapace in Alien: Covenant. McQuarrie has worked with Cruise on Valkyrie, Edge of Tomorrow, and Jack Reacher, so it's no surprise he's the first to direct multiple M:I films.

If all goes to plan we could see Mission: Impossible 6 begin shooting by next summer. Cruise is currently busy filming Jack Reacher 2.
