'Toy Story 4' to be a Love Story Separate from Original Trilogy
There seem to be two camps when it comes to Pixar's announcement that Toy Story 4 would arrive in 2017. On one side there are those who feel the original trilogy was perfect, ended beautifully, and should be left alone. And then there are those who are just happy for more adventures with their favorite toys Buzz Lightyear, Woody, and the rest of the gang. So Pixar had found a way to appease both sides by taking the beloved characters in a different direction.
Pixar President Jim Morris spoke with Disney Latino about Toy Story 4, and says (translated via Google Translate) it will pick up after the events of Toy Story 3 but will not connect to that trilogy at all...
Morris: "The third movie was over in a beautiful way and completed a trilogy. I think this movie is not part of [that] trilogy. We are putting together a very nice story. It is not a continuation of the end of the story of 'Toy Story 3.'
When the news first broke about Toy Story 4 we were told it would be a love story, and Morris confirms that to be true...
Morris: "Temporarily it is, but it will be a love story. It will be a romantic comedy. It will not make much focus on the interaction between the characters and children. I think it will be a very good movie."
The new direction makes sense considering they brought on Rashida Jones and Will McCormack, writers of the excellent rom-com Celeste & Jesse Forever, to pen the screenplay. What Morris is saying is that we probably won't be seeing much, if any, of the toys' owners this time around, and that's probably a good idea. John Lasseter will direct Toy Story 4 when it hits theaters on June 16th 2017.
So who will the happy couple be? Probably not Barbie and Ken since we've already seen that. Maybe Buzz and Jessie?
