One of these years I'll have a chance to walk the Croisette at Cannes, but it won't be this year. As we here in DC get ready to kick-off Filmfest DC, the Cannes Film Festival has revealed their impressive slate of films for the 2015 event which will have Joel and Ethan Coen heading up the jury.
The list of big premieres includes Todd Haynes' Carol, which stars Rooney Mara and Cate Blanchett; Gus Van Sant's suicide drama Sea of Trees with Matthew McConaughey, and Denis Villeneuve's Sicario starring Emily Blunt. Paolo Sorrentino (The Great Beauty) will debut Youth just as many expected, Justin Kurzel's Macbeth with Michael Fassbender will be there, plus Joachim Trier's English-language debut Louder Than Bombs premieres and there are some new photos of that below.
There will also be out of competition screenings of Woody Allen's Irrational Man with Joaquin Phoenix and Emma Stone, Pixar's Inside Out, and Mad Max: Fury Road which is guaranteed to singe the hair off the typically polarized Cannes crowd. A special screening of Natalie Portman's directorial debut, A Tale of Love and Darkness, will also take place.
There is still room for a few more announcements in the coming days, so maybe we'll hear something about Cary Fukunaga's Beasts of No Nation? The Cannes Film Festival begins on May 13th.
