Fresh off her not-so-good performance at the White House Correspondents Dinner, SNL's Cecily Strong is joining Melissa McCarthy in Michelle Darnell. McCarthy plays a titan of industry sent to prison for insider trading. When she's released and ready to rebrand herself as America's sweetheart, the people she screwed aren't so forgiving. There are a lot of funny ladies in this one with Kristen Bell, Kathy Bates, Kristen Schaal, Annie Mumolo, and Margo Martindale. Peter Dinklage also co-stars in the film directed by McCarthy's husband, Ben Falcone. Strong will be seen next in the gymnastics comedy, The Bronze, which I may have been the only guy to give a slightly positive review of at Sundance. [Deadline]
Common, who has a mystery role in Suicide Squad, has joined Ice Cube and Cedric the Entertainer in Barbershop 3. Malcolm D. Lee will direct the film, which will have Cube returning as Calvin, the struggling barbershop owner dealing with a cast of colorful employees. Common can be seen next in Every Secret Thing opposite Elizabeth Banks and Dakota Fanning. [Deadline]
