Daniel Radcliffe will Defend Video Games in 'Grand Theft Auto'

There's always some politician or activist out there looking to make their name by trashing video games, comics, rap music, whatever, for their sex and violence. When Rockstar Games first launched their best-selling Grand Theft Auto franchise, co-founder Sam Houser endured attacks constantly from those who wanted to take the game off the shelves and away from impressionable kids. The story of Houser's most curious fight is now being brought to the big screen, and he'll be played by Harry Potter himself, Daniel Radcliffe.

According to THR, Radcliffe is circling the role of Houser in Grand Theft Auto, which chronicles his fight with Florida attorney Jack Thompson. In 2003 Thompson launched a campaign against Rockstar Games and other media companies for pushing sex and violence. His most memorable attacks came against the video game industry, though, even though he ultimately accomplished little before being disbarred in 2008 for professional misconduct.

Owen Harris (Misfits) will direct the film based on James Wood's script. Production begins later this month so we should learn soon who will take the Thompson role.
