Emma Stone and Steve Carell Serve Up Tennis Drama ''Battle of the Sexes'

It seems Emma Stone just can't get enough of her Crazy Stupid Love co-stars. Only a few days ago she was reported to be joining Ryan Gosling for musical La La Land, and now she's taking the court with Steve Carell for Battle of the Sexes, a film on the famous tennis match between Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs.

If this sounds familiar it may be for a couple of reasons. This particular project has been in the works for awhile and once had Danny Boyle circling the director's chair. He's still producing, but it will be Little Miss Sunshine duo Valerie Faris and Jonathan Dayton directing from a Simon Beaufoy (Slumdog Millionaire) script. King was 29-years-old when she challenged the loudmouth Riggs to the 1973 match, which he saw more as a business opportunity and way to stay in the limelight after retirement. Carell would take on the role of Riggs, while Stone will play King, and it will be very interesting to see how she's made up for that role.

So the other reasons this may ring a bell is because HBO is developing their own version of the story with Paul Giamatti and Elizabeth Banks in the leads. Will Ferrell is also attached to Match Maker, which centers on the same event. Something's got to give and one of these projects isn't going to make it all the way to production. [Deadline]
