First Teaser for the New Season of HBO's 'True Detective'
So the most curious thing about HBO's second season of True Detective has been the casting. There was no way replacing Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson with Colin Farrell, Taylor Kitsch, Rachel McAdams, and Vince Vaughn was going to go over well, and it didn't. It went over like a lead balloon, actually. But at the heart of it all is still creator and writer Nic Pizzolatto, and if this first teaser for season two is anything to go by we have nothing to worry about.
HBO has dropped a one-minute spot for True Detective, and it promises that things will be very different. For one thing, Cary Fukunaga is gone as director, and he's being replaced by a number of filmmakers tackling different episodes. Those worried about the lack of a singular visual style may want to trust that Pizzolatto has crafted a story that makes the best use of the change. Here's the official synopsis:
A bizarre murder brings together three law-enforcement officers and a career criminal, each of whom must navigate a web of conspiracy and betrayal in the scorched landscapes of California. Colin Farrell is Ray Velcoro, a compromised detective in the all-industrial City of Vinci, LA County. Vince Vaughn plays Frank Semyon, a criminal and entrepreneur in danger of losing his life’s work, while his wife and closest ally (Kelly Reilly), struggles with his choices and her own. Rachel McAdams is Ani Bezzerides, a Ventura County Sheriff’s detective often at odds with the system she serves, while Taylor Kitsch plays Paul Woodrugh, a war veteran and motorcycle cop for the California Highway Patrol who discovers a crime scene which triggers an investigation involving three law enforcement groups, multiple criminal collusions, and billions of dollars.
True Detective returns to the airwaves on June 21st.
