'Furious 7' Director James Wan Eyed for DC's 'Aquaman'

With Furious 7 nearly surpassing $500M in a single week, James Wan is more in demand than ever. He's long had a proven track record of making blockbusters out of lower budgeted movies, and now he's proven what he can do on a larger platform. So it's no surprise that Warner Bros. has come calling with an offer for Wan to join the DC Universe as director of Aquaman.

According to THR, Wan is the top choice to direct Jason Momoa in Aquaman, which will arrive in 2018 between 2017's Justice League: Part One and Part Two in 2019. No deal is in place yet and there are a number of factors at play that could prevent this deal from happening. First off, Wan is still under contract with Universal to direct Fast & Furious 8, although there hasn't been any word of him doing another. He's also set to return for The Conjuring 2 in 2016. Plus, Aquaman still needs to find a screenplay with Will Beall (Gangster Squad) and Kurt Johnstad (300) writing parallel screenplays.

So there's a lot going on here, but I guess this firmly removes Jeff Nichols (Take Shelter) and Noam Murro (300: Rise of an Empire) out of the running as was previously rumored?
