He's played the mutant villain Magneto in the X-Men movies, the all-powerful wizard Gandalf in the Lord of the Rings films, and will be seen next as Sherlock Holmes in Mr. Holmes. Ian McKellen can do pretty much whatever he wants, and if anybody can make a talking clock believable it's him. Now he'll get the chance to prove it in Disney's live-action Beauty and the Beast.
Variety reports that McKellen will play Cogsworth the talking clock in Disney's new Beauty and the Beast film, the latest in a long line of live-action remakes. Through the power of CGI he'll be transformed into the character, along with Emma Thompson as Mrs. Potts, the teapot. Emma Watson is set to play Belle with Dan Stevens as her Beast and Luke Evans in the role of Gaston. Kevin Kline plays Belle's father while Josh Gad has been rumored for the sidekick role of Lefou.
Beauty and the Beast opens March 17th 2017 directed by Bill Condon.
