Trailer for Paolo Sorrentino's 'Youth' with Michael Caine, Rachel Weisz, and Paul Dano
A couple of years ago Paolo Sorrentino won an Oscar for The Great Beauty, powered by that amazing opening party scene. That the rest of the film was also a deep, beautifully constructed look at the meaning of life didn't hurt, either. And it looks like Sorrentino's next film, Youth, is going to touch on many of the same themes in a similar style. The difference is now he's got some big American stars to help sell it to an even wider audience.
Starring Michael Caine, Harvey Keitel, Paul Dano, Rachel Weisz, and Jane Fonda, Youth follows two best friends; one a retired composer, the other a still-working film director, reflecting on their mortality while vacationing in the Alps. From the elegant, orchestral score to the intricately considered images this is Sorrentino doing what he knows best.
No release date yet but if the film debuts in Cannes as expected we should get an announcement soon.
