While some sites (lookin' at you, Moviepilot, tone down your headlines please) are breathlessly proclaiming this footage is real, let's remain a little skeptical, okay? We've been told not to expect any post-credits sequences in Avengers: Age of Ultron, and it wouldn't make a ton of sense for Kevin Feige and Joss Whedon to lie to fans at this point. But now a video has emerged that claims to be just that, and it introduces a certain Marvel hero we aren't expecting to see for awhile. Even though it's my judgment this is totally fake, be warned that potential spoilers are beyond this point!
The rather cruddy-looking footage appears to be leaked from an international cut of the movie, and shows a window washer working on a high-rise building. In the background is a clear shot of Avengers Tower, and while the worker goes about his job, it's revealed that Spider-Man is clinging to the wall behind him. Yep, your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is in the house. Or rather he's on the house, I guess. After a brief quip from the wallcrawler, the scene ends with a "Spider-Man created by Steve Ditko and Stan Lee".
Okay, so a few things to consider here. Why wasn't the crowd going absolutely bonkers over this? Spider-Man just debuted in the MCU and nobody has anything to say? Get outta here. The role has yet to be cast as far as anybody knows (and we would know it by now), and with Spidey only said to be appear in one film before his solo movie in 2017 it's not likely to be in a scene like this. He's expected to debut in Captain America: Civil War, which makes sense given his close association with that storyline. Also, that costume looks a lot like earlier versions seen in Sam Raimi's trilogy. Kevin Feige promised something a little different, and this definitely wouldn't qualify. Finally, if this were anything close to legit Marvel would taken every one of these videos down hours ago.
So my Spidey Sense is tingling like mad right now telling me this video is fake. We shall see when Avengers: Age of Ultron opens on May 1st.
