Jose Padilha Directs 'Mindcorp'; Alex Ross Perry Takes 'The Names', and More
Robocop director Jose Padilha has found his next sci-fi project. He'll direct Mindcorp, a sci-fi thriller set up at Warner Bros. based on one of Padilha's unpublished stories. Dwain Worrell will write the script for a story that involves next-generation mind-body experimentation and a priest charged with saving all of humanity.
Alex Ross Perry (Listen Up Philip) will write and direct an adaptation of Don DeLillo's novel, The Names, which "is set in the summer of 1979 in Athens and throughout the Middle East with a cast of expats who start to investigate a string of murders committed by a cult." It's the seventh of DeLillo's books and the second to be adapted for the screen after David Cronenberg's Cosmopolis. Perry recently agreed to write Disney's live-action Winnie the Pooh, so it's unclear when this project will get moving. [Variety]
Ric Roman Waugh, who last directed Dwayne Johnson in Snitch, will take the helm for crime thriller, Shot Caller. Based on a script by Waugh, the story follows a newly released prison gangster who is forced by the leaders of his gang to orchestrate a major crime with a brutal rival gang on the streets of Southern California.
