This summer Melissa McCarthy will don a number of disguises in the espionage comedy, Spy, but in next year's Michelle Darnell she'll take on a very familiar character. McCarthy created the Darnell persona a decade ago during her time with the Groundlings, and now she's bringing the abrasive self help guru to the big screen.
The first image of McCarthy and co-star Kristen Bell in Michelle Darnell has arrived courtesy of EW, and it shows the ladies marching with a group of girls known as "Darnell's Darlings". Darnell is a wealthy titan of industry who goes to prison for insider trading, and when she is released she attempts to rebrand herself as America's sweetheart. The problem is the people she screwed over aren't quite ready to forgive.
McCarthy co-wrote the script with Steve Mallory and her husband and director, Ben Falcone. The film hits theaters next year on April 8th.
