Septillion to One, a lotto film described as a cross between Silver Linings Playbook and Ocean's 11, has just hit the jackpot. The spec script by Adam R. Perlman and Graham Sack was just bought by Oddlot in a bidding war, and now Alexander Payne is eying the director's chair.
TheWrap reports Payne's interest in directing the film, which is loosely based on the true story of Joan Ginther. She used her Stanford PhD in Statistics to win the Texas State lottery four times to the tune of $20M and catching the attention of Texas' fraud department. When an ex-FBI agent begins investigating her he instead falls head over heels in love with her.
Whether Payne signs on or not could depend on Downsizing, the sci-fi film he's been set to direct with Matt Damon and Reese Witherspoon as the leads.
