Paul Rudd Becomes a Hero in the New Trailer for Marvel's 'Ant-Man'
Marvel has taken some pretty big risks with their cinematic universe lately. Guardians of the Galaxy had been the biggest, but that gamble paid off in ways nobody could have expected. Not only was it one of the top grossing films of 2014, but it turned Chris Pratt into an action movie stud. Now Marvel is hoping to pull off something similar with Ant-Man, casting funny guy Paul Rudd as the tiny hero with the big heart. While all of the footage we've seen, including the recent preview, has been pretty grim, the full trailer is here and it has the offbeat tone we were looking for.
Rudd stars as small-time thief Scott Lang who is hired by brilliant scientist Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) to do what he does best: "Break into a place and steal some stuff". Marvel drew the ire of fans by switching from director Edgar Wright to Peyton Reed, but the special effects don't seem to have suffered in the move. There are some incredibly cool sequences here, like Ant-Man running along with an army of ants, plus his encounter with the heavily-armed Yellowjacket (Corey Stoll). What's more, screenwriter Adam McKay's humor is finally given a chance to shine.
Thoughts? Ant-Man opens on July 17th.
