Showtime's 'Twin Peaks' Revival Now Has 100% Less David Lynch

“I haven’t returned yet. We’re still working on the contract.”

That was David Lynch back in March cautioning Twin Peaks fans to not get too excited after it was revealed he would return to revive the cult series for Showtime in 2016. There have been scattered reports over the last few weeks, all disputed by Showtime, that contract negotiations between Lynch and the network were proving difficult, and now it looks as if they have completely fallen through. Reports began to surface at WonderCon today that Lynch had pulled out of the series, and he has since confirmed those stories to be true. Here's what he had to say in a series of tweets....

Showtime did not pull the plug on Twin Peaks.

After one year and four months of negotiations, I left because not enough money was offered to do the script the way I felt it needed to be done.

This weekend I started to call actors to let them know I would not be directing.

Twin Peaks may still be very much alive at Showtime.

I love the world of Twin Peaks and wish things could have worked out differently.

Showtime was quick to chime in with a response...

We were saddened to read David Lynch’s statement today since we believed we were working towards solutions with David and his reps on the few remaining deal points. Showtime also loves the world of Twin Peaks and we continue to hold out hope that we can bring it back in all its glory with both of its extraordinary creators, David Lynch and Mark Frost, at its helm.

So the series could still keep going without Lynch, but who wants a Twin Peaks without him? For that matter, what the heck is Twin Peaks without Lynch's influence? It may take a loud fan outcry for Showtime and Lynch to come back to the negotiating table, so get those petitions going, people!
