The Complete 'Star Wars' Franchise Coming to Digital Platforms this Week!

With Star Wars: The Force Awakens coming later this year, Lucasfilm, 20th Century Fox, and Disney have made the bold move to release all six Star Wars movies on digital platforms. And what's more, they'll be arriving this week on April 10th. You'll be able to get all six films of the George Lucas era on ITunes, Google Play, and XBox on Digital HD, complete with brand new bonus footage. So in case you wanted even more of The Phantom Menace (why would you want that??) it'll be available for you to download and keep forever. The films will be available individually or as a whole in the Star Wars Digital Movie Collection.

“We’re thrilled that fans will be able to enjoy the Star Wars saga on their digital devices wherever they go,” commented Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy. “These films broke new ground in technology, design, sound, and visual effects, and we’ve created some very special bonus material which delves into the saga’s rich history, including new and never-before-released conversations between legendary Star Wars artists — the masters who helped George bring his iconic universe to life.”

It's unclear what the price will be everywhere but certain platforms are offering incentives to those who buy from them. If you're an XBox Live user, buying the complete collection from Microsoft comes with a special R2-D2 digital avatar. Google Play and Amazon have made their price point known, selling the entire collection for $89 and individual films at $19.99 apiece.

So now you can get your Jar-Jar Binks fix while on the subway, lounging at the beach, or anywhere you're in the mood to be reminded how far George Lucas truly fell.
