Trailer for Animated ' Kahlil Gibran's The Prophet' Featuring Liam Neeson and Salma Hayek
Lebanese writer Kahlil Gibran is one of the most popular poets and philosophers in all of the world, having sold more than 100 million copies of his 1923 book, The Prophet, which has also been translated in more than 40 languages. Encompassing more than two dozen prose essays on life, love, freedom, crime & punishment, and the human condition, it hardly seems like the most logical choice for an animated adaptation, and yet one is on the way and the first trailer is here.
Featuring the voices of Salma Hayek, Liam Neeson, John Krasinski, Quvenzhane Wallis, Frank Langella, and more, The Prophet features animation by the great Bill Plympton. Here's the official synopsis:
"Inspired by the beloved classic, Kahlil Gibran’s The Prophet tells the story of an unlikely friendship between a young, mischievous girl and an imprisoned poet. Interwoven with Gibran’s lyrical and inspiring words on topics such as the true nature as love, work, children, and freedom, this work-in-progress screening features highlights of the animation and music."
The Prophet will hit theaters on August 7th.
