20th Century Fox Hopes to get 'The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen' Right This Time

Alan Moore and Kevin O'Neill's The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is a brilliant piece of work, a shining example of how smart and exciting graphic novels can be. The series, which comprised three volumes plus an expansive sourcebook, saw the British government gather a team comprised of iconic Victorian literary characters Allan Quartermain, Captain Nemo, Mina Harker, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, and The Invisible Man. This brilliant comic was then turned into a rather disastrous live-action film in 2003, a movie so bad it made Sean Connery decide to retire. Now all these years later, 20th Century Fox is ready to try again.

According to The Tracking Board, a reboot is in the works with the idea of building it into a franchise. Of course, this was what they wanted to do before, which is why they added Shane West as a gun-toting Tom Sawyer because he was supposed to appeal to kids. Riiiiight. Well, that didn't work, obviously, and Fox attempted a TV series with Michael Green (Green Lantern) that never materialized.

John Davis, a producer on Chronicle and Predators is working this new big screen attempt so hopefully he can give this amazing property the film it deserves.
