Alicia Vikander Eyes 'Bourne 5' and 'Assassin's Creed'; Emma Watson Could Replace Her in 'The Circle'
You won't be able to escape Alicia Vikander in 2015, and why in the world would you want to? The Swedish star came into her own back in 2012 with A Royal Affair, and has amassed a steady string of notable performances. This year alone we've seen her in Alex Garland's Ex Machina, the indie crime thriller Son of a Gun, and...well, let's just forget Seventh Son happened; and she's still got Adam Jones, Testament of Youth, The Man from UNCLE, and potential awards films Tulip Fever and The Danish Girl. Wowsers. And filmmakers keep lining up to work with her, because Deadline reports out of Cannes that Vikander is circling two very high-profile studio films.
Vikander has entered talks to star opposite Matt Damon in Paul Greengrass' fifth Jason Bourne film, and the video game adaptation Assassin's Creed with Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard. Just one look at the caliber of leading man she's working with should tell you how in-demand Vikander is right now. We still don't know much about the plan for Bourne but filming is expected to begin in the fall with Damon, Greengrass, and Christopher Rouse writing the screenplay.
As for Assassin's Creed, production on that begins this August. Justin Kurzel, who last directed Fassbender and Cotillard in Macbeth, will be at the helm of that one.
With those productions so close together something had to give, and it looks as if Vikander will need to drop out of The Circle, the cyber-thriller directed by James Ponsoldt and starring Tom Hanks. She only recently boarded the the film, an adaptation of Dave Eggers' novel, which is being looked at as a majorly hot property. With her likely to exit, Emily Watson is being targeted as a potential replacement to play a young employee at a mysterious tech firm known as The Circle.
Assuming everything comes together as it should, we'll see Vikander in Bourne 5 on June 29th 2016, and Assassin's Creed on December 21st 2016.
