Christoph Waltz to Direct and Star in 'The Worst Marriage in Georgetown'

Over the last few years we've seen a number of top actors make the move to directing. Angelina Jolie, Russell Crowe, Ryan Gosling, and Natalie Portman are just a few, and while the results have been a little uneven, most of them have shown a great deal of promise. Now Oscar-winner Christoph Waltz is ready to make a similar move behind the camera.

Waltz will direct and star in The Worst Marriage in Georgetown, which David Auburn (Proof) will adapt from the New York Magazine article by Franklin Foer. Drath was 26-years-old when he married the 70-year-old Viola Herms Drath, a wealthy socialite and political figure in Washington, DC. He began acting strangely early on, giving himself the rank of "Count"and passing himself off as a general in the Iraqi army, all while holding diplomatic events and ceremonies around the Nation's Capital. It all came to an end when Viola was found murdered in 2011 and he was the obvious suspect.

So this is exactly the kind of dark, offbeat story Waltz is perfect for, just as we saw from him in Tim Burton's underrated Big Eyes last year. The big question will be how he takes to directing. Filming is expected to begin this fall. [ScreenDaily]
