Josh Brolin Argues with Emily Blunt in First Clip from 'Sicario'

Denis Villeneuve has taken us into the heart of darkness with his last two films, Prisoners and Enemy, and now he's giving us something just as visceral. His violent drug war thriller Sicario debuted to rave reviews at Cannes, and while we await an actual trailer, here's the first clip from the film which stars Emily Blunt, Benicio Del Toro, and Josh Brolin.

In this scene we see Blunt's character, an idealistic FBI agent recruited to join a joint task force by a pair of ornery agents played by Del Toro and Brolin. Their goal is to cross into the most dangerous areas of Mexico and take out a drug cartel boss, but it looks like they'll have some internal issues to deal with, too. This is a simply composed and effective scene shot by the great Roger Deakins, who worked Villeneuve on Prisoners and will again on the Blade Runner sequel.

The clip comes courtesy of Extra Beurre and you'll have to wade through a lot of chatter to get to it. The actual footage doesn't begin until the 3:48 mark.

Sicario opens wide on September 25th after a limited run a week earlier.
