RZA to Direct Azealia Banks and Common in Slam Poetry Drama 'Coco'

Hey, remember when the RZA looked like an up 'n coming director? That was before anybody had a chance to see The Man with the Iron Fists, then all of that promise kind of dried up. And so too did all of those projects he quickly became attached to. But now he's back with a new project and he's bringing along fellow rapper Azealia Banks as his star.

Banks will make her feature acting debut in Coco, a music drama directed by RZA from Nicole Asher's screenplay about an aspiring hip-hop artist struggling to launch her career and fulfill her parents' wishes of completing college after a record deal goes awry. Upon returning to school she finds her true passion in the vivid world of slam poetry.

The cast includes Common, Jill Scott, Lucien Laviscount, Lorraine Toussaint and Pitch Perfect's Hana Mae Lee. [Variety]
